Scrippas on the rise: Kiana GoShorn

When Kiana Goshorn produced a video assignment for Professor Tommy Heffron’s JAC 265 class, she had no idea it would be selected as a finalist for the National Student Production Award. "WOW," she said when alerted of the news.

Goshorn’s short non-fiction film More than My Hair was her final project for the class.

The film was made to showcase how young women feel about their hair as well as how those feelings impact self-esteem, childhood memories and professional opportunities.

Kiana Goshorn is a senior attending Hampton University. She is a New York City native majoring in strategic communications and minoring in business management. Her ultimate goal is to work behind the scenes in the entertainment industry. Overall she would like to start a career as a publicist after graduating college. While attempting Hampton University she has dedicated her time to volunteering at the Child Development Center on campus and contributing at HerCampus, an online magazine for female college students.

Goshorn will discover, later in October 2020, how she placed in the competition.

"I'm thrilled to hear Kiana's film was recognized. There is real confidence in her use of color and movement. It's a great piece of work. Short, direct, engaging, and playful." -- Assistant Professor Tommy Heffron.
