HAMPTON, Va. (July 6, 2018) — Hampton University rising senior, Leondra Head, recently published her first book entitled, Walking In Your Path, a self-help novel encouraging young adult students and young adults to follow their passions.
“Leondra should be immensely proud of herself. She is taking the steps to go above and beyond to encourage undergraduates to essentially, ‘Dream No Small Dreams,’” said Hampton University President Dr. William R. Harvey. “There is no greater success than investing in the betterment of yourself to ultimately reach your goals and ambitions in life.”
The motivation behind her book was to encourage students to follow their dreams and fulfill their passions, while matriculating through college. Walking In Your Path is intended as a resource to encourage students to be their best selves through networking, building strong relationships and healthy friendships.
“These three elements have been so important to me in my college experience so far. I’ve learned how to network and I’ve grown so much while attending Hampton University,” said Leondra Head. “I read self-help books often to consistently learn and grow. I didn’t see any self-help books written by young college students and from there, I was inspired to write my own on how to navigate college.”
This summer, Head is interning for MSNBC Live with Katy Tur’s show in New York City. Her current role as a production intern is comprised of writing scripts for the show and conducting news research.
“I knew from the first day I taught Leondra in my Introduction to Visual Media class that she was a standout student,” said Dr. Mavis Carr, Assistant Professor for the Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications. “Her drive and focus is exceptional and quite rare. The fact that she is now a published author does not surprise me one bit.”
Scheduled to graduate this December, Head will continue her journey as a rising senior in the Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications, where she is the local and world editor for the student-run newspaper, The Hampton Script. She is also the Vice President of the National Association of Black Journalists at Hampton University, and in her spare time, she is a member of the HU women’s intramural tennis team.
“Once my journey at Hampton comes to an end, I plan to be a news producer in a city such as Los Angeles, New York or Washington D.C. I enjoy writing and hope to go far in newsroom management,” said Head. “Hampton has been such a rewarding place and I will definitely donate and give back once I graduate.”
Walking In Your Path is now available at Barnes & Nobles and on Amazon.
