HAMPTON, Va. (Oct. 24, 2017) -- Hampton University’s Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications celebrates its 15th annual “Scripps Day” Oct. 25, commemorating its longtime partnership with The Scripps Howard Foundation.
"The Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communication wouldn’t be what it is without the Scripps Howard Foundation,” said Dean B. DaVida Plummer. “When other major media brands were sponsoring career fairs and putting up booths at HBCU events, Scripps went above and beyond the call. The leadership had the vision to partner with Hampton University President William R. Harvey to invest in students here at our Home By The Sea from academic start to graduation and ultimate career placement.”
The event celebrates the impact the Scripps Howard Foundation has made on Hampton University’s Journalism and Communications School since its $10 million gift in 2002.
“The Scripps Howard Foundation has been so generous and helpful in promoting and sustaining our school,” said Scripps Howard School Endowed Professor Dr. Michael DiBari. “Just last summer they gave $150,000 for a Content Management System, which now helps us create and manage content within our newscasts and programs.”
The celebration will include a plethora of events, from information sessions to interviews, allowing students, faculty and staff to learn more about the Scripps Howard Foundation. Scripps Howard representatives speaking to students and faculty include Liz Carter, Chris Hardy, Karen Hite and former Hampton University and Scripps Assistant Dean Dr. Battinto Batts.
The Scripps Howard Foundation has been the guiding inspiration of Hampton University’s Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications since its inception in 2002. Uniquely designed as a modern, symbolic lighthouse, the Scripps Howard School was built with a vision to produce ethical and competitive leaders equipped to practice excellence and innovation in multimedia technology while adhering to the core principles of journalism and communications.
