Media Giants and HU Alum Visit Scripps Howard to
Share Internship Opportunities and Wisdom with Students

Looking for an internship in preparation for a career in journalism and communications?

Representatives from prominent media companies—including the New York Times Institute, Bloomberg, CBS, Google and the Scripps Howard Foundation—will visit the Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications in the coming weeks to give students a “heads up” about their internships. This is a rare opportunity to learn firsthand from media professionals the skills that media companies are looking for in new graduates, discuss the internship process and for students to have their burning career-related questions answers.  Hampton University alum will also be present to discuss their experiences and life/work after college.  Do not miss this chance to network and be a stand out!

New York Times Institute
Thursday, Oct. 17 and Friday, Oct. 18

Thursday’s activities are still being confirmed. There will be a special session on Friday, Oct. 18 at 11 a.m. for students who wish to attend the Institute.

Applications are now being accepted for two of Bloomberg’s 2014 Print News Internship programs. Open to current students and recent graduates, the internships will enable students to gain valuable, hands-on writing and reporting experience while working for Bloomberg News. Students are strongly encouraged to apply early by submitting, via the Bloomberg website, a resume, a cover letter and three published clips.

  • 3 p.m. – General Session Capstone (all sections)— (R. P. Scripps Auditorium)
  • 6:30 – 8 p.m. – WHOV TV News Production and Live Broadcast (7 p.m.)

Friday, Oct. 25: One-on-one meetings with select students

Wednesday, Nov. 13

Jody Beck, director of the Scripps Howard Foundation Semester in Washington, will be here to interview the top candidates for the coveted internships. 

First application deadline: Friday, Nov. 1

Also in attendance will be Karen Hite, director of talent acquisition, and Tanya Minella, senior recruiter, from The E. W. Scripps Company who will interview students for other Scripps positions. Interviews will be conducted in room 207.
