The APSE Day of Diversity is Back

On Tuesday, Oct. 7, The Associated Press Sports Editors (APSE) will joing Scripps Howard's School of Journalism and Communications once again for the Day of Diversity program.

The day will kick off at 10 a.m. with sports editor and former APSE president Phil Kaplan, as well as guests from News Sentinel. There will then be a panel discussion hosted by South Florida Sun Sentinel sports editor Greg Lee of the Sports Journalism Institute (SJI) on the issues college students face when entering into the field of journalism.

Students will compete for two internships funded by the Scripps Howard Foundation. The two winning students will receive a $3,000 stipend and a $500 scholarship for the summer of 2015. Both interns will spend a total of nine days at the University of Missouri for the SJI journalism "boot camp." In addition to "boot camp," The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review has agreed to host one of the students during the summer of 2015.

Later that afternoon at 1 p.m. Carrie Cousins, general manager of educational media company at Virginia Tech, will lead a session with student members of ASPE from Virginia Tech. Following that session there will be a job fair and resume critique for students from 2:15-4 p.m.
