Scripps Howard Welcomes
New Students/New Courses for 2011-2012 School Year

It is a new year with new beginnings at the Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications. The school is welcoming new professors and new courses to broaden the multimedia skills of the Scripps Howard students.

Journalism and communications is the number two ranked major at Hampton University among new students this year. The enrollment for the school went up about 25% and the new 86 students were welcomed to the school this past Tuesday at the Scripps Howard freshman orientation.

“We are looking forward to an exciting new year. The faculty and facilities are second to none and we expect our new majors to dive in and immerse themselves in everything we have to offer,” says Interim Dean Rosalynn Whitaker-Heck.

Some of the new courses include WHOV Practicum, Minorities in the Media, Public Relations Events Practicum, Writing and Creative Strategies for Advertising, Crisis Communication, Visual Communication, and Photojournalism. Many of these new courses will help the students to become well versed in the new multimedia world that they will face once they graduate. There is an additional media lab with new Macs and new Mac stations with Final Cut Pro in the TV studio.

The new academic year festivities will kick-off Sept. 9 when Scripps Howard will host the first welcome back cookout from 2-4 p.m., sponsored by the newly formed Student Executive Council .
