Caldwell Café to Host Veteran Journalist Jim Vance
By Imani Lester
On Wednesday, April 18, the Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications
will have its final presentation of The Caldwell Café series for the 2011-2012 academic
school year. The guest speaker will be Emmy award-winning television news anchor Jim Vance.
Jim Vance is the anchor for News4's 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. editions for NBC in Washington,
D.C. Part of the team since 1969, Vance started as a General Assignment reporter and moved
to the anchor desk in 1972. In his role, he provides special reports on a wide variety of
issues, reporting from all over the United States and to several countries, including El
Salvador, South Africa and Vietnam.
Vance will speak one-on-one with host Professor Earl Caldwell in the Scripps Howard
television studio at 6:15 p.m. A reception will immediately follow the taping. The live
taping of The Caldwell Café is scheduled to air at a later date on Channel 65.
The Caldwell Café series is named after Earl Caldwell, a nationally renowned journalist,
who is a writer-in-residence with the Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications.
The series was designed as a vehicle for Caldwell to expose students to media and journalism
professionals in a relaxed environment.
