Prof. Allie-Ryan Butler is an expert on the impact of media on popular culture. He currently teaches Media in Multicultural Society, Principles of Advertising and Digital Media Innovation. A native of Columbus, Ohio, Prof. Butler lived in New York and Washington, D.C. before finally finding a home in Virginia. After completing his undergraduate degree at Howard University, he went on to receive his master’s degree at New York University.
Prof. Butler has previously worked in business affairs with the well-known record label, Atlantic Records. Following his work with Atlantic Records, Prof. Butler worked for two years as a media consultant for MTV Networks, where he worked with MTV, VH1, and Comedy Central. There he contributed to the work of such hit shows as the "Chappelle’s Show," "The Colbert Report," "The Sarah Silverman Program" and "The Daily Show" with John Stewart. Although he has gained much experience working with top-notch companies, his greatest accomplishment thus far has been the realization that his genius was teaching in the classroom. He said, “For me it was stepping into who I really am."
