Lynn Waltz has been a professional journalist for more than 25 years, including 12 years as a senior writer at The Virginian-Pilot newspaper in Norfolk, Virginia. Lynn also worked at The Philadelphia Inquirer and The Elizabethtown Chronicle, both in Pennsylvania. Her medical writing has appeared in major journals. She holds a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Nonfiction from Old Dominion University where she was a visiting assistant professor for two years.

Nominated twice for a Pulitzer, her stories have freed a wrongly imprisoned man, and her investigative work has exposed abuses by a Virginia legislator and illegal labor practices by Smithfield Foods, the world's largest pork producer and processor. Waltz's feature about a death row chaplain was judged among the top three newspaper stories in the country. Her story about a wrongly convicted student won first place in news writing from the National Association of Black Journalists.
